Homemade Gift Ideas for Valentine's Day

When you know that nothing store-bought can convey your feelings, you simply have to get down and create a something special for the someone special in your life. Heartfelt, handmade gifts can be made easily and quickly for your Valentine.

Personalized Handkerchiefs: Men always need handkerchiefs and they make a beautiful gift for Valentine's Day if personalized with their names. Use machine embroidery or fabric painting to write names on purchased plain handkerchiefs.

Appliquéd Hand Towels: Dress up store bought plain hand towels with iron-on appliqués or hand appliquéing a cutout or a stitching on a patchwork panel.

Flower Arrangement: Choose a creative container like a pretty cup and saucer, a teapot or a pretty shaped jar. Cut floral foam to fit the container, soak it in water and place it in the container. Arrange flowers and tiny leaves picked from the garden and gift.

Homemade Jam: A loving gift from the kitchen is a pretty jar of homemade jam. Keeping the special occasion in mind, go for a Strawberry flavored jam!

Potted Plants: Give your Valentine something that will stay on for a much longer time than purchased roses. Choose a plant from your garden that can live in a container and use potting soil to plant it. Choose a flowering plant or a herb going by what your Valentine would like better. Tie a red ribbon to the planter and gift it.

Homemade Gift Baskets: Toss together some of your Valentine's favorite things and arrange them beautifully in a basket. Add some silk roses to make the arrangement look pretty, cover with cellophane and tie with a ribbon.

Hand Painted Crockery: Depending upon whether your Valentine is a soup or a coffee/tea lover, buy a white soup bowl/cup or a coffee cup and paint it yourself.

Chocolate Fudge: Homemade chocolate fudge is always the way to go when short on time and ideas. Cut into pieces and fill up a glass jar with the squares. Cover the jar with a fabric piece and tie with a pretty ribbon.
