  • Iris Folding template or pattern (Click here to Download patterns)
  • Scraps of decorative paper in various colors
  • Cardstock or frame for mounting your work
  • Cellophane tape
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors

Directions:

1. Cut decorative paper in 1" strips and fold in half lengthwise. Cut out an aperture in the colored cardstock.

2. Place the cardstock over your iris folding pattern, right side down so that you work on the wrong side. It is advisable to tape the pattern to the cardstock using a masking tape for ease and neatness.

3. Start arranging the strips of paper. Start by placing a strip of paper aligning to the inside area of the area marked '1' and tape both ends of the strip.

4. Using a different color strip every time, place strips in areas 2,3 and 4. Continue doing this, working inwards, leaving a small opening in the center.

5. Turn the card upside down. This is what your card should look like.

6. Glue the iris folded card to cardstock, blank notecards or the frame that you have chosen depending on whether you want to frame your work or make a notecard out of it. Glue a decorative button or paper in the opening at the center and you are done!
