A Seaside Christmas

The beauty of the seashore coupled with Christmas décor has a charming effect. Use these fun decorating tips and small easy projects to create a look everyone will enjoy.

A Seaside Christmas Decorating Idea

When it comes time to get the tree up and decorated, think tans, and pale blues. Find some pale blue glass ball ornaments. Use rope or beaded seashells as garland. Get a net from a local craft store and some beige fabric. Wrap the fabric loosely around the base of the tree and arrange the net on top for a tree skirt. Use a starfish as your tree topper. You can also easily create ornaments out of seashells by following the directions below:

What you will need:

1. Various sized scallop seashells
2. Gold or silver glitter
3. Hot glue gun
4. Raffia
5. Green embroidery thread

Directions:

1. Wash and dry the seashells to remove any sand that may still be on them.
2. Put glue along the bottom where the seashell fans out.
3. Quickly sprinkle glitter on the glue before it dries.
4. Tap off the excess glitter.
5. Cut a piece of raffia, fold it in half and tie a knot in the end so that it forms a loop.
6. Turn the seashell over.
7. Put a dab of glue opposite where you glued the glitter.
8. Put the knot of the raffia loop in the glue.
9. Cut a piece of embroidery thread and tie it in a bow at the top of the seashell around the raffia loop.

Bring other elements of the ocean into the room. A life preserver decorated with a bit of holly becomes a cheery wreath. As a Christmas dinner tabletop decoration get a clear large floating candle bowl. Put sand in the bottom along with some seashells add water and then let red poinsettias float along the top. Candles can also add to the décor. You can get beige and white candles with clear candleholders and fill the holders with tiny seashells and sand and one small sprig of holly on top. Or you can create another fun candle look by following these directions:

What you will need:

1. Tall round candles in blues or beige
2. Various kinds of small seashells
3. White paper
4. Hot glue gun
5. Glue stick

Directions:

1. Cut a 1 ˝ inch strip of paper.
2. Glue the paper around the bottom of the candle with the glue stick. This allows you to glue the seashells onto the candle without melting the candle wax.
3. Glue the seashells onto the paper on the candle. Feel free to allow some to cover each other, overlap or stick out in funny directions.

The seashell bottoms add just enough to carry the theme. With these few tips you will be well on your way to creating beautiful Christmas décor. Let your imagination come up with other ideas for your particular home and be on the lookout for fun items to add.
